The Stained Glass Museum

The Stained Glass Museum within Ely Cathedral offers a unique insight into the fascinating history of stained glass, an art-form that has been practised in Britain for at least thirteen hundred years.

Their permanent gallery displays over 125 stained glass panels representing eight hundred years of the history of this ancient art, from the thirteenth century to the present day.

All the stained glass panels in the gallery are displayed at eye-level enabling visitors to have a rare close-encounter with the art of stained glass. Temporary exhibitions are also held throughout the year, highlighting panels and designs from the Museum's reserve collection.

The Museum is located on an upper level of Ely Cathedral. Entrance to the museum is via a spiral stone staircase of 40 steps from the south-west transept of Ely Cathedral. The stairs are fitted with a handrail. Unfortunately, there is no lift access to the Museum.

Those wanting to visit only the Stained Glass Museum do not need to purchase an Ely Cathedral visitor ticket. Tickets can be purchased on entry. Museum only tickets are £6 Adults, Children under 16 Free.

Opening Times: Monday - Saturday 10am - 5pm (last entry 4.30pm) April to October; Tuesday - Saturday, 10am - 4pm (last entry 3.30pm) November to March.
