Monday - Saturday: 9.30am - 4.30pm

Sunday: Noon - 3pm

Changes to Visitor Opening Hours
Very occasionally we need to close our doors to visitors for a private service, event, filming or maintenance; or restrict access to certain parts of the Cathedral. We are aware people travel long distances to visit Ely Cathedral so we try to minimise periods of closure as much as possible.

As soon as we know about a closure the information will be posted below. Please check this page for any last minute changes prior to your visit as some events may have to be arranged at short notice.

July

Tuesday 16 July
9am – 2pm: No visitor access to the Lady Chapel due to a school careers event.

Wednesday 17 July
1pm – 2pm: No visitor access to the Lady Chapel due to a lunchtime concert. All visitors are welcome to attend the concert.
1pm – 4pm: The Octagon area will be busier than usual with rehearsals for a school event. Some visitor access and views may be limited.

Friday 19 July
1pm – 3pm: No visitor access to the Lady Chapel due to a wedding.

Monday 22 July
10.45am – 12.30pm: No visitor access to the East End and Presbytery due to a memorial service.

Tuesday 23 July
9.30am – 4pm: organ tuning. Please note this involves loud and repetitive sounds.

Wednesday 24 July
1pm – 4pm: The Octagon area will be much busier than usual with rehearsals for Gabrieli Roar - Verdi's Requiem Some visitor access and views may be limited.

Thursday 25 July
1pm – 2pm: No visitor access to the Presbytery due to a lunchtime concert. All visitors are welcome to attend the concert.

Friday 26 July
1pm – 3.30pm: No visitor access to the Lady Chapel due to rehearsals and a dance performance. All visitors are welcome to attend the performance at 2.15pm.

Saturday 27 July
12.15pm – 2pm: No visitor access to the Presbytery and East End due to a wedding.
2pm – 4pm: The Octagon area will be much busier than usual with concert rehearsals. Some visitor access and views may be limited.

Wednesday 31 July
4pm – 5pm: No visitor access to the Lady Chapel due to a family service.

August

Thursday 1 August
1pm – 4pm: Rehearsals for Elton John by Candlelight. Sound checks and music will be very loud and visitor access and views may be limited.

Friday 2 August
1pm – 4pm: Rehearsals for Elton John by Candlelight. Sound checks and music will be very loud and visitor access and views may be limited.

Friday 9 August
11am – 12.30pm: No visitor access to the East End and Presbytery due to a service.
12.30pm – 2pm: No visitor access to the Lady Chapel due to a private event.
1pm – 4pm: Rehearsals for Lost in Music. Sound checks and music will be very loud and visitor access and views may be limited.

Saturday 10 August
12.15pm – 2pm: No visitor access to the East End and Presbytery due to a wedding.

Friday 16 August
9.30am – 1pm: No visitor access to the Lady Chapel due to rehearsals
1pm -2pm: No general access to the Lady Chapel due a Dance Divine performance. All visitors are welcome to watch the performance

Wednesday 21 August
10am – 4pm: Organ tuning. Please note this involves loud and repetitive noise.

Saturday 24 August
10.30am – 1.30pm: The Lady Chapel will be busier than usual with rehearsals for Master Byrd. Some visitor access and views will be limited.

Friday 30 August
10am – 4pm: Rehearsals for The Country Music Experience. Sound checks and music will be very loud and visitor access and views may be limited.
