Summer Fun with Ely Cathedral Learning

We have an action packed summer planned at Ely Cathedral this year - we can't wait for you to join us for garden fun, lego building and creative arts. You'll find all the information you need about our summer programme on this page.

Tales from the Secret Garden

Mondays from 22nd July to 19th August 10am - 11.30am.

Where to find us

Find us in the Bishop's Garden. Enter the Cathedral via the West Door and ask one of our lovely welcomers to direct you to Prior's Door - this is the entrance to the Secret Garden!

What will you be doing?

We'll be reading Aesop's Fables this year and having fun with creative crafts themed around each story. You'll find garden games, treasure hunts and you might even learn some new songs! Storytime will be from 10.30am to give everyone a chance to find their way in. There will be activities for everyone to enjoy and those between 0-10 in particular will have a great time exploring them all.

How do I join in?

Tales from the Secret Garden is free of charge and open to all. Simply come to the West Door, there will be someone on hand to show you how to get to the Prior's Door, where you will find the entrance. There is no need to pre-book this activity and there is no charge for joining in, though a suggested donation of £2 per child is gratefully received. Please contact learning@elycathedral.org if you have any questions.

Illuminated Manuscript Craft Workshop

Tuesday 6th August 2024 10.00am - 11.30am

Where to find us

We'll be exploring Illuminated Manuscripts and lettering in the Lady Chapel.

What will you be doing?

Imagine a world with no printers - how would you get a book? Discover how the monks of Ely used to create books as we try our hands at different activities based around the manuscripts that the monks used to write. There will be a range of activities for all ages to enjoy such as calligraphy, colouring, illustrating letters, and trying to use real ink and quills as the monks would have done in medieval times. Ideal for those aged 6/7+ with plenty to keep younger siblings entertained too.
