The Octagon Tower at Ely Cathedral

Tenor Lay Clerk

Tenor Lay Clerk

Working hours as per schedule in the job description

Salary £10,382 (plus additional income from fees for services)

We are looking to add to our existing team of Lay Clerks in our renowned music department to help us continue our tradition of choral music here at the Cathedral. The post holder should be a skilled musician with appropriate vocal quality and technique, they should also have ample choral experience and advanced sight-reading skills.

Duties will include attending services and rehearsals as detailed in the schedule of commitments in the job description, a total of 200 appearances over a year in school term time, including Christmas, Holy Week and Easter.

Due to the nature of the role, and the close working relationship with The King’s School, Ely (the Cathedral acts as the school chapel and the choristers are students of the school), the post holder will be required to undertake an Enhanced DBS check with barred list (child workforce) and specific safeguarding training necessary for the role.

Further information on this role can be found in the role description below, and there is further information about our Lay Clerks and expanded choir on the music pages of our website (linked below).

To apply for this role, please submit a completed application form, along with a covering letter outlining your skills and suitability for the post (no more than 500 words) and send to HR@elycathedral.org by 12pm (midday), Friday 9 August 2024.

Please note, a CV cannot be accepted as a substitute for a completed application form.

Interviews are expected to take place in late August or early September 2024. We expect the postholder to take office no later than January 2025, ideally as soon as possible.
